The former KPN building from 1956 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is transformed into the brand new international headquarters of L-founders of loyalty. The mission was clear: 'Creating the most beautiful and pleasant office in the Netherlands. ' We renovated and repurposed the building in a contemporary manner and connected the two existing buildings with a new transparent intermediate building. It is an office with a sustainable future, eight floors with its own character, an unconventionally renovated façade and a welcoming entrance.

Innovation
During the transformation of the closed brick linkway, it was completely demolished and replaced by a new, transparent linkway. Uniquely, the second skin of this intermediary connects both brick buildings: a metal frame hangs in front of the curtain wall following the rhythm of the joints of the adjacent facades, inspired by the Brazilian open masonry bond, with bricks glued between the steel ‘joints’. This innovative openness also provides a view of the three illuminated walkways and the (restored an replaced) stained glass artwork.

Creativity
The international playing field of L inspired us to give each floor a unique atmosphere, each with its own world theme: from Latin passion to Japanese serenity. The common denominator was found in the materialization. By primarily using natural materials, we played with atmospheres that seamlessly blend into each other yet still distinguish themselves. In our designs, high-quality upholstery, fabrics, and furniture were chosen to give you a sense of hospitality in every space.

Functionality
L-founders wished for bright, accessible spaces for diverse usage with room for everyone. L’s work culture emphasizes gathering. Meeting and flex spaces are everywhere. Ergonomic sit-stand workstations, spacious workbenches, homely meeting rooms and lounge areas provide a pleasant, functional work environment. Throughout the entire building, everything should be possible: from gatherings with larger groups to meetings in small teams and secluded individual workstations.

Sustainability
Sustainability was the common thread. The 1950s building, with its high ceilings, the openable single-glazed windows and solid brick walls without insulation, resulted in exorbitant heating costs, poor temperature control and humidity management. Nowadays, we have different demands. All exterior walls received insulation panels featuring high-quality insulation and insulated aluminum frames with HR++ glass were installed. Heating and cooling of the spaces are now managed through heat recovery and geothermal installations.

Each floor has a custom solution for ducting the ventilation and heating systems combined with different acoustic solutions tailored to the unique atmosphere. The heart of the state-of-the-art climate control system is located in two central places: in the basement of the new intermediate and beneath the roof above the restaurant. https://vossarchitecture.com/cases/l-founders-of-loyalty
