Design concept
The space is fragmented in three subdivisions: A framing entrance box made out of natural steel plates in the exterior passage, the main area characterized by a wooden grid with panels alternating in rhythm and dimensions which are inspired by traditional Japanese bento boxes and enclose the restaurant in walls and ceiling. The third section - the bar - again is dominated by steel sheets in the floor and wall coverings as well in the ceiling.
Contrasting materials
The main materials, (sawn) holm oak and rough natural steel sheets, are contrasted by shiny polished brass elements. In the restroom a brass basin and polished brass sheet working as a mirror are silhouetted against the dark material palette, steel sheets and chiseled basalt tiles.
Spatial organization
A representative central display table contains a wide range of Japanese tableware, not just exhibited as decorative objects, but rather used in the different dishes. Perpendicular to the display table a long bar dominates the background while on both sides of that central element booths offer a cosy gastronomic experience.
