Kappo Cuisine is かっぽうりょうり in Japanese and 割烹料理 in Chinese. ‘割’(ɡē) means to cut, a cooking technique by chopping and splitting with a knife. ‘烹’(pēnɡ) means to boil, a cooking technique by boiling with fire. Combining two words makes 割烹(ɡē pēnɡ) which indicates excellent cooking technique using a knife and fire and the gourmet meal made with professional cooking technique. In Japan, Kappo Cuisine imposes 2 meanings: 1. In a broad sense, it means the gourmet meal made by a chief who learned professional cooking technique. 2. In a more specific words, it means the gourmet meal made by a chief with the professional cooking technique who provides the customized food impromptu at the bar counter or at the table to customers making them enjoy food freely. Kappo Akii specialized in Kappo Cuisine has opened at Samsung Station, complex business center like COEX. Space concept is “SETTLED NIGHT”. A space filled with calm lights that do not disturb the silence of the dark night. "The beauty of the city's diverse nature, which is not revealed during the day, can only be seen by the absorption of light on a quiet night" is expressed as space. The 380 m² Kappo Akii consists of a gate, corridor, hall, bar, room, kitchen, and service area. A new scene was created for each space to express various senses of space even in one space with a specialized design. Kappo Akii is designed to be accessible as soon as you go down to the 2nd basement level by elevator from the hotel lobby, providing people with a new experience with the feeling of connecting to a new world. The floor pattern of the narrow and long corridor that appears after passing the gate and the repetitive line lighting from the three sides highlight the sense of immersion as a transition space for entering the hall. The main space of Kappo Akii is a bar space designed in a circular shape. Artist Lee Tae-soo's work is represented by a rock embedded in a lighting pole. This is a space work that focuses on the sensational intersection resulting from the difference between the visible and the image and the real thing. In the bar, the chefs' movement fills the space and upgrades it through vitality. And the circular banquet seats penetrated into the diagonal wall in the hall add to the richness of the space. The diagonal walls are finished with black texture painting, but the space, where the seats are located, is contrasted with a soft navy color, making the dining customers feel comfortable. The three giant pillars were constructed of different materials with wood, navy paint, and marble-type Big slab tiles to add variety to space. And the upper plate of the mass that supports the two pillars is gray and reflects the material of the banquet mass and the pillars, giving a sense of the depth of space. Wood and beige texture paintings were mixed and matched in the service area mass and the room mass to express the warmth due to the material and balance the entire space. The ceiling was finished in a dark tone. In addition, the pillars and the diagonal wall, the room, and the ceiling in contact with the wall of the service area were dug in a diagonal line to emit warm light to stand out and express the feeling of different materials. The two types of rooms are designed with different concepts, so even if the customer uses the room several times, I wanted to give each other a different feeling. The first room used patterned glass to induce light scattering. In addition, even if you eat inside, it is designed so that you can feel exterior through the window. In the second room, where the top and bottom of nature are upside down, flowers and plants are planted upside down on the ceiling, giving people a different sense of space while dining. Kappo Akii space provided different scenes in various shapes and materials. This gives customers a different feeling. Furthermore, depending on the lighting and objet, it is possible to produce rich images in the evening, late at night, and season. The beautiful senses that can be seen by the light that permeates the calm city are diverse, but they provide a sensuous experience in space through understated aesthetic expressions.
