Kaiseki Den by Saotome, employs distinctive Wabi-sabi design elements of simplicity, raw texture, modesty and nature to highlight Kaseki dishes’ presentation and exemplify it’s Zen origin.

The shopfront is built with natural composite wood strips resembling Japanese temple design . The entrance corridor is a coarse marble pathway decorated with plants, rocks alongside creating an epitome of a Japanese garden.

Interior is a simple layout with minimum decoration. Wall is decorated with natural bamboo bark wall paper and linen noren. Roof are wooden strips. The translucent wagami paper with soft lighting allows full use of light source for a spacious feeling.

On the left of the main hall is an open kitchen ignited by LED Wagami light boxes. For best visual effects and easy maintenance, paper cover is in a door construction with hinges hidden at the top.

Sliding doors in wood and Wagami paper are built for flexible use of space and strengthen a Japanese vibe. When fully open, the area becomes a spacious hall. When slided closed, it creates a Washitsu room for private gatherings.

In the back is another VIP room. Walking down a wooden stairway is a grand hall with a 5 metre-tall ceiling decorated with a natural pendant lamp. The Karesansui images of ripple lines as Running Water, Circles as Rock meaning Land all manifest a calm mind and evoke imagination of being in a peaceful sanctuary.
