Kaikaya is the first tropical sushi restaurant in Valencia. Inspired by the owners passion for surf, Brazilian culture & sushi the restaurant brings a mix of Japanese & Brazilian food. Taking advantage of the historic elements of the space with vaults, metallic beams & original bricks the first conclusion was to maintain the existing elements in its actual state, highlighting the beauty of its imperfections left by time. Although the design concept needed to represent the explosive mix of Japanese & Brazilian culture, including a strong splash of color. Thereby you can recognize the use of materials that remind to Japan like wood & raffia and elements that bring in the tropicalismo from Brazil with its colorful patterns made of mosaic tiles, parrots & an overwhelming incorporation of plants. Entering the restaurant, you can see the raffia circles that represent the hats used during the rice collection in Japan & that are here merged in an explosive way with the colorful mosaic tiles & tropical plants. Once reaching the bar, again we find the mix between Japan & Brazil through the traditional Japanese wooden pattern on the bar & the colored patterns inspired by the Brazilian Sixties. Also, here we can find the parrot lamps with a palm leaf that as all decorative lamps were specifically designed for the project. The upper floor anew shows a combination of the original heritage from the space, fusioned with tropical & Japanese elements. A mix also represented by the round seats.
