Just Another transitions seamlessly from breakfast through to dinner, providing the surrounding community with a sense of place and permanence in their neighbourhood. Our design was driven by our fascination with the chameleon-like nature of bodegas. These often-underestimated spaces are versatile, reliable and a cornerstone of communities across North America.
Just Another, like bodegas, is ambitious in its offerings. Our client dreamt of opening a space driven by café and cocktail culture with high-quality ingredients, in-house roasted coffee and excellent service that is warm and non-pretentious. The materials and colour palette were chosen to communicate this vision—bright prints, locally sourced wood, ceramic, stone and an abundance of floral textiles.

Scattered amongst the space you’ll find design objects from local artists, framed abstract imagery and items from our Roslyn Shop, including our hand-sewn cushions made from upcycled fabrics. By mixing these elements with beautiful, yet functional furniture, we went beyond the standard of commercial spaces to deliver a design that is playful, unexpected and full of joy.
Above the primary seating area, we suspended three floral beach umbrellas, dropping the ceiling height to soften the sound of Just Another’s busy kitchen and create a cozy nook for customers to sip their coffee. We added counter-height seating on one side of their large street-facing window and low-profile tables and chairs on the other. These distinct areas dictate how the space is used during the day, from laptop workers to families with little ones in tow, there is room for everyone at Just Another.

In the evening, the lights are dimmed and Just Another opens for happy hour, offering cocktails, wine tastings and a robust menu of small or large plates. The atmosphere changes ever so slightly, becoming more intimate as the evening progresses. At this time of day the pale blue tiles, green drapery and delicate wallcoverings really shine, elevating the space from a bustling cafe to a restaurant and bar.
