Lighting is central to creating the dramatic and immersive guest experience at Jackalope Mornington Peninsula. Our site specific conceptual narrative ‘Alchemy’ influences the sequential lighting installations, each expressing a different aspect of the alchemic process. A stacked neon sign encased in mesh welcomes guests who then move inside to Flaggerdoot Bar ‘The Alchemist’s Workshop’ featuring 75 glass vessels with custom spun brass lids filled with clear liquid. The combination of shelving up-lighting and the insertion of white neon elements into the liquid creates a refractive and reflective dispersion of light through the vessels. The ceiling installation is comprised of warm white neon pinned off a black ceiling to create a linear neon 'gas cloud’.
Guest corridor ceilings are adorned with a series of green blue neon symbols, each representing Alchemic formulae, creating a juxtaposition to the low-level corridor lighting. The Jenka and Jakyak function rooms are identified with a composition of letters and translucent rod lighting, while the ceiling installation of 20 custom light fittings of opal diffused glass globes on bespoke brass framework is reminiscent of bubbles and constellations. The DootDootDoot restaurant ceiling pays homage to fermentation with a dense bubbling cloud of suspended glass bulbs. Using 5 different types of Edison style globes, the installation uses repetition and massing to create height and scale variation across the ceiling.
