The two business partners who launched this investment company knew that they needed a headquarters that was functional and code compliant, but what they truly desired was a workplace that was comfortable and had a residential feel. They tasked the architect to leverage its deep understanding of both hospitality and residential design to create an office that feels sophisticated yet welcoming and comfortable. They leased a space in a high rise in Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood that had decidedly non-residential features: concrete floors and ceilings, exposed steel beams, and low acoustic tile ceilings. The architects opened and reconfigured the workspace to maximize city views and connect functional areas such as workstations, conference rooms, and private offices with improved circulation to provide a sense of spaciousness throughout. While maintaining connections and flow, the design also strikes the right balance between social, collaborative spaces and quieter areas for focused, heads-down work.
