Anya Hindmarch closes their stores and fills them with 90,000 recycled plastic bottles to highlight the problem of single use plastics. Anya Hindmarch’s revolutionary ‘I Am A Plastic Bag’ collection is manufactured from recycled plastic bottles that are spun into yarn to produce a canvas that feels like cotton. Over London Fashion Week, the brand closed their 3 London stores from 14th-18th February filling them with 90,000 recycled plastic bottles to mark the launch of the collection. Anya Hindmarch collaborated with to StudioXAG to help bring their vision to life, creating a stunning, impactful scene with very little impact on the environment. In keeping with the sustainability message, we took an innovative approach to constructing the installation, choosing to hire rather than produce new materials for the project. The secret structure hidden beneath the bottles ensured that we needed to use much less recycled bottles than meets the eye. All of the items were returned once the installation finished resulting in an almost zero-waste project. The only element that we had to produce were the window graphics, these were fabricated with eco-friendly inks printed onto a completely PVC-free material. All elements were sourced within a 40 mile radius, and we will offset the carbon generated during transportation & installation. The bottles were collected by the employees at Anya Hindmarch, First Mile, Grundon Waste Management, Paper Round and The Crown Estate, and were recycled once the installation had finished.
