An expansive apartment with a greenery view, located in a residential area of Shibuya, Tokyo. The client requested for a large wall to display his collection of paintings and three-dimensional works, but we proposed to remove the existing walls and create a large single room that integrates the living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom. We thought that we could create a fusion of art and greenery by removing the walls which obstruct the view and taking the greenery view inside. We used neutral colors such as greige and white, which is the color theme for the entire space, and used materials with various textures such as mortar-like paint and terrazzo for the kitchen and storage. The idea was to add colors to the space with vivid artworks. What was also important was to create a space where the client can enjoy the art in his daily life, not to make it an inorganic space like a museum where the artworks are the main objects. The exquisite color gradation of the interior and the texture of the solid wood and fabric create a comfortable space to spend a long time. We believe that comfort is created by the fusion of landscape, architecture, products and art. The client is thinking about changing the artworks and increasing the number of artworks displayed in the future. We hope that the client will be able to enrich the time he spent in this house and enjoy the life surrounded by art.
