In this hotel we wanted to show Bosnia and Herzegovina as it is: multicultural country that arose like a Phoenix from ashes. Sarajevo is a special proof of this. In this city to this day there are many traces of the tragic war in the Balkans, but there is also numerous evidence of how much the people who live there wanted to return to normal life. That bullet marks were patched and the walls were painted in a hurry to start a new life as soon as possible. Someone might wonder why the rooms of ibis Styles Sarajevo designed by our team look unfinished. It was not our process, it was Sarajevo process and will of life, but we decided to embrace it. Of course, it was not easy to reconcile the standards and image of the ibis Styles brand with such a complex and tragic story. We dealt with it by recalling other, much more joyful historical events. We noticed how the inhabitants of Sarajevo love to remember the Winter Olympics of 1984. It is not only because of city's development, crowds of tourists and big sports events. For them the Olympic Games - according to what the ancient Greeks assumed - were a symbol of peace and happiness. That's why this time arouses so much nostalgia in the inhabitants of Sarajevo, that's why sometimes they cry while visiting a hotel we've designed, which is why they love Vućko - the Olimpic mascot - so much. Some say it is the most joyful and positive hotel of the whole ibis Styles chain, although it recalls the most tragic story - which we perceive as a huge compliment. As the main theme of the hotel we choose the winter Olympics 1984 and decided to use as much as possible elements referring to the spirit of Sarajevo: its architecture, history and local craft. In the selection of materials and colours, this was reflected in the large amount of exposed installations and raw concrete walls. They were combined with wooden panelling in warm tones and locally woven wool carpets. The central lobby point - shisha bar Chill Cafe – is all lined with carpets and furnished by Bosnian craftsmen. Local handicrafts appear in many details: the room numbers are hand-woven kilims, and the restaurant is decorated with hand-forged metal trays. On the ground floor, the main space is a lobby with reception and restaurant and a lounge bar. On level -1, a spa zone with swimming pools and saunas was created. Part of the hotel is also a`la carte restaurant - in this interior we have very bright, cold colours and a huge mural referring to the winter landscape. The restaurant connects with the bar and lounge, where again the design is more casual. The old gondolas from the ski lift serve as a seats partially. On the 15th floor there is a sky bar with panoramic windows - Ingman Bar. The bar was made of glass blocks and the stools around are covered with sheep`s skins. Beautiful views can be enjoyed while sitting on a specially designed grandstand. References to the Olympics appear in many places. They are main subject of several murals by Karol Banach. In each of the rooms you will find a pair of vintage skis. At the reception hang swings made from snowboards. The guests are welcomed by wolf Vućko - the Olympic mascot.
