This project reimagines the former site of Liu Yong University by preserving the historic wooden doors through acrylic panels, mixing traditional and modern materials, and adding technology elements like laser lights to celebrate the past while inspiring new vitality, all within a thoughtfully designed space using natural light and unified materials.

Innovation: Salvaging and preserving the old wooden doors from the original building by sealing them in acrylic panels and displaying them as a screen creates a historical atmosphere while allowing a modern reimagining of the space.

Creativity: 1.Creative use of materials like acrylic to recreate traditional Chinese architectural elements like eaves in a modern way. 2.Adding laser lights and projections to enhance the futuristic feeling while referencing classical Chinese scenes.

Functionality: 1.Thoughtful design of skylights to bring natural light in accordance to the latitude maximizes functionality of the space. 2.Integration of cyber and science elements alongside traditional forms to advance the themes of time and space.
3.Unified material palette and design language ensures the space feels elegant and harmonious despite mix of modern/traditional elements.

Sustainability: We collected many wooden doors that were abandoned in the original architectural complex and carefully cleaned and restored them. In order to showcase the historical feel of the space, we wrapped these doors with acrylic. Additionally, we also utilized previously abandoned wooden tea tables, reworking them to create practical tables. In terms of the architectural structure, we preserved the original wooden roof structure as much as possible and added a layer of glass on the exterior to prevent rainwater from entering the interior while allowing sunlight to shine through the original wooden structure into the interior.

Furthermore, we created many outdoor areas to allow people to better connect with nature.
