The venue consists of 2 restaurants, 5 private dining spaces, a feature bakery, wine cellars and a rare spirits bar. The brief was to create an interior that felt hedonistic yet homely, rustic yet refined, and unconventional for a formal dining experience. The site–a Brutalist style building–proved challenging, with its consistently low ceilings, disconnected levels, and park-side views blocked by a peripheral stair and small windows. We dramatically remodelled the interior, relocating the stairs at the core of the building to become a sweeping sculptural staircase that now connects all three floors. Cutting a large void into the second level slab, has created a dramatic double-height dining space and mezzanine, that endows the space with a sense of grandeur and interconnectedness, that also offers guests multiple views of the chefs at work in the feature kitchen above and bakery below. New full-height triple glazed windows open up the once-closed façade, enabling guests to dine amidst impressive views over nearby Green Park. The opening of the interior has resulted in an atmosphere that is both intimate, yet expansive. The interior concept plays upon the theme of dwelling, where traditional emblems of domesticity—rustic kitchen tables, cast iron stoves and formal wood panelling—are reimagined in unexpected ways, offering an experience where the uncanny of the everyday is continually revealed. At HIDE, guests are made to feel both in awe of the space, yet at ease within it.
