Linehouse was commissioned by Canadian lifestyle brand Herschel Supply to develop their retail stores throughout Asia. The Tokyo location is the first flagship for Herschel Supply, located in the trendy streets of Shibuya, Tokyo.

The store is a platform to not only showcase Herschel products but offer a poetic insight into the roots of the Vancouver brand. The store incorporates two levels of retail display and has street frontage. Linehouse was asked to design the interior, and redesign the exterior façade.

In developing an overall concept for the store, Linehouse drew from Herschel’s roots in Vancouver, Canada, an urban center surrounded by nature. Linehouse took the notion of the urban forest and the kind of dwelling one might find there. In doing so, they re-conceptualised the alpine cabin for an urban context, creating a fragmented dwelling.

Linehouse wanted to push the innovation of seemingly simple materials. From the gradient effect of the hand brushed stainless steel to the experience of the colour gradient on the wood battens, the result was to create an unexpected experience which references Herschel brand’s story.
