This project is a law firm with a young partner base. The design is based on the intertwined development of the old and the new in legal law and the local nature of the project, creating a legal space that breaks with tradition, culture and personality. Elements of symmetry and balance, which represent the unchanging legal identity of the West and China from ancient times to the present, are used in all aspects of the space.
The functional areas are symmetrically distributed in plan with the front desk as the central axis. In the reception area, the two sloping symmetrical walls and the ceiling create an isosceles trapezoid structure in the space. The steel ceiling refracts and extends into a radial triangle. Linear lighting on the floor adds to the atmosphere of the space. The black doors and columns in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass windows are parallel to each other, balanced and aligned, reflecting the solemnity and justice of the law. Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows is a river and park with a floating island.
The space runs parallel to the river, leaving a channel in the middle, front and back, to mimic the floating island and frame a long, functional island area in the centre of the interior. The floating islands directly in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows echo each other and extend the unique view of the natural space into the room. A connection between the building, the interior and nature is created. The use of Roman travertine, an ancient material, and other new materials create a spatial tension between the old and the new. The contrast and choice of materials blurs the newness of the space, and metaphorically the sedimentation of the professional field in which the law is based.
