Savannah College of Art and Design presented the first U.S. solo museum exhibition of eminent Chinese couturiére Guo Pei at the SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta. The exhibition highlighted Guo Pei’s magnificent, unrestrained creations that imbue contemporary high fashion with ancient tradition, evoking Chinese history and mythology in her craft techniques, fabric selection and imagery. Over 40 of Guo Pei’s most exquisite gowns from the past decade (2006-2016) were on display, offering a survey of career highlights: from her fantastical collections like Legend of the Dragon (2012), to the now-iconic imperial yellow cape worn by Rihanna. The exhibition design was inspired by the aesthetic of Guo Pei’s studios in Paris and Beijing. Soft pink walls, gold accents and soft lighting from chandeliers highlighted Guo Pei's world of opulence, color and beauty.

In concert with the exhibition, SCAD collaborated with alumni to produce a major monograph celebrating Guo Pei’s spectacular oeuvre. The book features captivating new and archival images of the designer’s work and offers insight into her remarkable career and global significance as an artist. The volume was published by Skira Rizzoli and released in December 2017.
