Lynk & Co’s new Gothenburg, Sweden, headquarters activates an existing industrial site with colour and spirited elements, emphasizing space over its cars (at least visually). The interior has a decidedly local flavour, also a vernacular touch for Lynk & Co.
Its design team worked with the Gothenburg-based studio New Order Arkitektur to give the brutalist building a ‘creative mix of the raw and the elaborate, with a constant element of surprise’. The collaborators didn’t want anything to feel brand new. Sketches and scribbles left by craftsmen remain on the freshly erected concrete walls, repurposed office furniture occupies the space and the concrete floor – in the words of CEO Alain Visser – is ‘botched’ in ‘just the right way’.
Work by Swedish artist AKTA, cobalt blue finishes, graphic upholstery, psychedelic smiley-face symbols and a Yayoi Kusama-esque dot pattern are woven throughout the interior. Lynk & Co’s 01 model is parked in the back, shrouded by vibrant LED lights. Targeted to a younger demographic, Lynk & Co offers month-to-month memberships giving people car access with lesser commitment.
