The relocation of this Global Investment Management Company in Belgrade, Serbia showcases an innovative response to the evolution of the modern workplace. To challenge traditional corporate hierarchies, modernize spatial efficiency, and create an inclusive environment, the client opted to eliminate all private offices. The senior staff are positioned alongside their teams to further business collaboration and efficiency. Unique architectural challenges posed by a round floor plate inspired inventive and strategic design solutions to support various work functions within this global financial institution. The design balances opposing elements—old and new, raw and refined, neutral and colorful—drawing local inspiration, with a particular nod to New Belgrade. The forms take cues from the city itself, incorporating rounded corners and joinery reminiscent of the Nouveau and Brutalist architecture found throughout the city.
For functionality, the design effectively addresses the diverse needs of its stakeholders by offering a variety of purpose-built spaces. A shared desking solution increases personnel capacity while adhering to flexible workspace concepts, while acoustic curtains ensure a harmonious balance between openness and quiet, focus-work areas. The office is sophisticated and intentional, with spaces ranging from hospitality-inspired lounges to requisite formal boardrooms. A flexible community space enhances its utility by hosting town halls and events, increasing future adaptability for business needs. IA also strategically placed lockers throughout the open office to create dedicated storage for all employees, creating an additional element of activity-based design.
The design's emphasis on adaptive ancillary spaces for varying work styles supports economic sustainability by enhancing productivity while incorporating future growth. The introduction of shared desking optimizes space, reduces real estate costs, and ensures its long-term economic viability. The project's integration of raw and natural materials reflects a commitment to environmentally sustainable design. The workplace design, such as training rooms and a technology hub, demonstrate the client’s commitment to continuous learning and innovation, and promotes social sustainability.
The design team pushed the envelope of required items like kitchenette islands to maximize their potential and minimize additional costs. Ribbed wall cladding adds texture and depth to the elemental design focus to create a workspace that is functional and symbolic of the client’s identity and aspirations. This project stands as a testament to IA’s mission to infuse spaces with purpose, life, and sophistication, fulfilling the client's vision for a modern, flexible office that reflects its global standing and local essence.
