Our client approached us with a unique challenge: creating a restaurant in the Pavilion of Brussels' iconic Glaverbel building, designed by architects Renaat Braems and André Jacqmain. The objective was clear: to attract both the building's occupants and the local community while enhancing the culinary offerings and elevating the overall user experience.
We embarked on designing an attractive and functional program capable of serving up to 1200 people while also operating as a versatile event and workspace. Our intentions were multi-fold: to increase customers and develop their loyalty, guide them seamlessly throughout a unified and engaging space, offer them an exceptional food experience.
Our design language revolves around raw materials such as wood, steel, and concrete, with minimal lines and a clear layout. The food counter becomes the centerpiece, emphasizing the food offer and fostering a sense of togetherness and community.
To execute this vision, we crafted a reflective surface that appears to float effortlessly above the food station. This design element allowed the counter to be visible from all points of view in the room, effectively staging the operators, the food and human interactions.
Sustainability was a fundamental aspect of our approach. The menu was designed around seasonal ingredients, prioritizing collaboration with local suppliers, and reducing food waste. Careful consideration was given to selecting the most energy-efficient kitchen equipment available.
We incorporated the reuse of existing furniture with a fresh aesthetic. We also sourced furniture and tableware from Belgian designers, supporting local craftsmanship and minimizing environmental impact.
Our restaurant design in the Glaverbel building complex embraced the challenge of attracting new customers and enhancing their experience. Through a functional, creative and sustainable approach, we transformed the space into an inspiring haven, bringing people together to enjoy good food, foster connections, and contribute to a vibrant community.
