For Gingers new showroom, originality and innovation are found in the way BURDIFILEK conceptualized and broke the large 20 000 sq. ft. linear space. When entering the raw space, the impression was as if walking into a large art gallery within an industrial warehouse. The uniqueness of the architectural envelope incited the designers to keep the integrity of the building and play with the concept of the art gallery.

The designers created zones in the mid-floor area with volumes called “the Pavilions”. The black metal frames and frosted glass pavilions take their cues from the existing clerestories of the warehouse. The pavilions serve as mini galleries to display the product lines, help delimitate a primary circulation path while making the space more to human scale. The idea behind the semi-translucent glass allows for kinetic movement, creating a sense of curiosity for what is beyond, thus eliminating any static environment but instead enticing customers to further browsing.

To enhance the aesthetic and functionality, all materiality was purposely chosen to be matte, from the wood, the paint, to the frosted glass. Since most of the products are polished metals and high gloss porcelains, the resulting effect is that the collections shine against the matte surfaces. Instead of signage, colors, shapes and forms guide customers through the spaces. The palette is rich with touches of brick, French blue, white and natural wood. The pop of color acts as a backdrop for the visual merchandising and function as canvases for seasonal displays.

A request was to ensure that the store would have functional working stations. Consultation areas, and cash points were created to be user friendly, and comfortable enough for extended consultations. All working areas are made of warm wood with complementary stone accents, fostering a welcoming feeling.

As a nod to the gallery concept, the designers custom designed monolithic sculptural displays and pedestals, at times brutalist in form and shape, casting an industrial feel. The calculated simplicity in the design allows the client flexibility to create vignettes as well as showcasing more products without overwhelming the shoppers.

An important aspect was to ensure an intuitive shopping experience, where one can shop and understand the product instinctively. The design solution was to strategically place complementary zones adjacent to one another for a seamless shopping experience.

The success of the design is embedded in the originality of BURDIFIELK’s creative solutions. The innovative infusion of highly functional and approachable sub-spaces within a large volume has created an enduring environment that will instill consumer confidence and stand the test of time. The team pushed the boundaries with a sophisticated design, which is as modern, classic, and elegant as the Ginger’s curated collections.
