The Geometrical Loft generates an interesting change of use. In the Astygi building coexist industrial spaces, offices and cafeterias live together along with a circulation network, articulated by a helicoid ramp, which allows to access from the -3 floor to the building’s roof. Nevertheless, this mixed program is not included in the current regulations; it has become obsolete since the building was built in 1970 in the middle of the industrial district of Simancas. The growth of the city has generated an increase of housing demand situations in areas that were formerly for exclusive use. Besides, a critical repositioning is required to answer the needs of a neighbourhood in the process of change. In view of this fact, this project avoids any notification with the City Hall. No project is performed notifying nor hiring any building company. The owner tasked a construction company the project, which was an open-plan distribution where the geometric volumes distribute the use of the space in an ambiguous way and without an apparent hierarchy. In this way, it is pretended to be innocuous before the law, allowing the tenant to make use of the industrial space freely and without more conditions than those imposed by the geometry, colour and light. The project strategy consists of introducing individual elements that allow to divide the area and this generate diagonal and through views. It involves establishing geometric laws that give meaning to this occupation and it organizes a program that can be residential, industrial or commercial. Circles, squares and triangles are arranged to delimit and characterize a mixed space bathed by a 25-meter-long window. Both, elements of greater privacy and those of more public uses, are anchored and organized the pre-existence through elementary geometries that solve technical problems. The use of colour reminds of Sol Lewitt´s chromatics operations. This reference, which was agreed with the client (interested in contemporary art), leads the way on a theoretical framework to articulate an exhibition itinerary. The arrangement of colour in the interior façade and in the programmatic objects gives expression to the volumes, in contrast to the bare walls where will be exhibiting the property's large format paintings collection. Finally, the project makes the possibility of introducing the car on a third floor, which is not usually common; the Astygi building allows it. When we are on the outskirts of the city, the use of the car is conceived as fundamental, besides the loading and unloading of materials, art, belongings and food is done comfortably through a large mechanized sliding door. The concept of a contemporary city of the modern movement is taken up as a nostalgic stimulus, moreover, it is presented to resolve a functional need and the opportunity is taken to incorporate the object "car" into the space. In this way, a charging point has been prepared in the access for an electric car, inviting the client to update it, to the extent possible, it can contribute to sustainable mobility.
