This is a temporary art project called ‘Burning Planet’, at an uninhibited site in Seongsu-dong area in Seoul, Korea. It is in imagination about a world where everything is burnt to black just like the people of modern society in the state of burn-out. The space can be accessed through a long dark tunnel that leads one to a dark clock store run by an old man who is also the gate keeper to burning planet. Guests are lead to a speakeasy kind back door, where one experiences an immediate sense deprivation. A half robotic ostrich recites the story of the planet where every organic life is extinct but humanity and ostriches. The eggs are frozen to preservation as a future source of survival which is presented in an interpretive dessert for visitors. Kinetic light installation symbolizes the scarce solar energy and the performers in restriction communicate the dullness and lifelessness with repetitive movements.
This space is one of Gentle Monster’s biggest non-commercial project space planned and constructed by the Gentle Monster spatial team in collaboration with Korean musician and artist Song Mino. Constantly raising the bar of retail design in Korea, Gentle Monster offers new prospects for anyone who seeks new creative experiences.
