Project Background The land acquired by Gamuda Land was previously a rubber estate that has a mountainous terrain. The undulating land of 810-acres was to be made into an integrated township nestled in nature and designed by master planners and architects to balance the need for quality lifestyle and living within nature. The Gamuda Gardens development is themed as a private, low-density sanctuary surrounded by the tranquillity of nature where families can have a clean, peaceful and safe environment to live in. In inducing a lifestyle where families can learn how to cultivate and preserve the land, The Seed Story is a narrative that educates people on how to protect the environment that we all live in, maintaining the natural landscape and teaching the locals about the land’s sustainability, where Gamuda Gardens is involved in the restitution of the environment, from seed to tree, and eventually, a brand-new forest. Concept The birth of this design concept is tied back to Gamuda Land’s brand value of “Respecting nature and environment” and brand story of “Listening to what the land has to tell us”, where we wanted to replicate and reflect nature in the sales gallery, providing not only a visual appearance of the outdoors but also play on other sensory elements such as sounds of a forest that provides the visitors a full immersion into mother nature. In bringing this concept to life, we aimed to create a space where one can be with nature and absorb its surroundings while viewing the home units. Reflecting Mother Nature In staying true to its concept of preserving nature, the elements, textures and colour tones used is an earthy colour palette, where wood and plants are matched with stone textures and colours that reflects a tropical forest. During the construction of the floor and ceiling, we didn’t want the usual flat surface, instead we created a tiered plaster ceiling and raised floor platforms to reflect the land’s terrain. This same idea flowed through the wood arrangements on the walls of the sales gallery, where it showed both, the undulation of the land and the view of rubber tree trunks from a distance, bringing in the serenity of nature into the sales gallery. The materials used in this project can be re-used and upcycled for future renovations. Immersive Environment In an attempt to work around the natural curve of the land and capture the natural landscape, we proposed a concept that encapsulates the serenity of nature by merging natural elements into the structure of the sales gallery. Integrating as much natural elements into our design, we built a live garden wall behind the reception counter that gives the gallery a lively and inviting atmosphere to welcome visitors. We created a sustainable environment by connecting automatic watering systems and place fluorescent lights that would encourage carefully selected plants to survive and thrive indoors. In bringing the whole nature experience to life, we have directed nature sounds to be played in the background throughout the sales gallery, the occasional crickets singing, water flowing to the birds chirping, these are the sounds that are usually heard in a forest setting. Pulling all the elements, colours, textures and sound effects used together, from its wood wall panels, architecture model tables, live wall plants and forest sounds, we reflected nature through nature in our interior design. A gallery that is aimed to not only showcase the development, an Experium room was created to visually introduce Gamuda Gardens’ concept, their vision to maintain the natural beauty of the area and to protect mother nature by educating buyers on forest conservation, which definitively echoed throughout the interior of the sales gallery. Promoting nature In planning this space, we directed contractors to allow enough natural light to pour through the space by having large windows, brightening up the discussion area and main hall with ease. Natural lighting is an important aspect in bringing the whole concept to life as it gives visitor a sense of being outdoors. To maintain fluidity of the terrain throughout the Main Exhibition Hall, the Mezzanine floor and the Multipurpose Hall, all the spaces are covered with organic shapes that showcase the natural curvature of slopes that are seen on display tables, the steps, the walls, the cut out of the carpeted areas and also the children’s corner. A strong aesthetic visual reminder of the land and our environment we choose to live in.
