FUTRWORKS is a modern coworking office on the 26th floor of a high-rise commercial building. Connected to Umeda Station, this renovated and rebranded space aims to foster collaboration with overseas companies and continue startup support efforts. FUTRWORKS boasts features inspired by the concept of a village. Our aim was to provide workers from different cultures, generations, and fields with a place to gather and collaborate with empathy and creativity.

One of FUTRWORKS' most significant features is a seamless transition between open spaces, under-eaves spaces, and private offices, mirroring the dynamics of shared and private areas in a village. This allows workers to move freely according to their schedules and moods.

The town plaza inspired the open space's layout and design. Its mix of casual workspaces, such as hammocks and sofas, and more traditional desks can suit a variety of working styles. Exposed ceilings and symbolic lighting further recreate the atmosphere of an outdoor communal area.

Under-eaves spaces act as the main transition between open spaces and private offices. Here, workers can sit and talk on the benches along the walls. The wooden eaves are reminiscent of engawa verandas you'll find in any traditional home in Japan.
Private offices at FUTRWORKS were designed to accommodate a variety of work styles. Each office is uniquely designed, allowing tenants to showcase their individuality. A glass window overlooking the open space provides a glimpse into each office.

In addition to design, UDS has also worked on the planning and continues to work on the operation of shared offices across Japan. Using our know-how, we incorporated various features designed to foster communication between workers in the renovation and rebranding of FUTRWORKS. For example, the cafe and kitchen constitute a part of the open space, allowing people to gather around food. The open space also acts as a venue capable of welcoming 100 guests. Various seating options, seating plans, and versatile lighting allow for a flexible space that suits almost any event type.

Throughout this project, we opted for ethically sourced and vegan materials when possible. A mix of natural textures, such as wood and stone, is another design aspect that gives communal spaces a plaza-like feel. In communal areas, the furniture is made with plant-derived leather. This unique fabric is made from fruit peels that would normally be discarded. In terms of colors, we chose red-based colors so that the coworking space's interior would mirror the Hep Five Ferris wheel in front of Umeda Station, which workers can see from the facility's windows.
