Fukuoka Zoo&Botanical Garden operated by Fukuoka city is located relatively close to Hakata which is a ward of Fukuoka city, and surrounded by the quiet residential area with green and open to the citizens. Our client operates the gift stores for the zoo, botanical gardens, and aquarium. They also produce, design, and manufacture the gifts for the stores such as staffed animals, sweets, and related goods. They asked us to design open and welcoming new gift store and café restaurant in the Zoo&Botanical Garden where anyone can come. The grand concept, “Oasis in the City” was integrated into both gift store and restaurant in a different manner. The gift store named Petit Monde which means small world in French, blends into the store’s design concept “Nurturing in Oasis.” In the center of the store, we designed the dynamic big growing tree as a motif of the ’Jack and the Beanstalk,’ and small stuffed animals are displayed as if they enjoy playing around in the zoo. The restaurant’s design concept is “Blessing from Oasis,” and expresses nature as a motif to allows people experiencing the elements such as water, light, earth, and forest in sequence which create blessings. The image of the Lion King in the musical creates a scene of Oasis day with color lighting. People of all ages can enjoy spending fun moment in both places.
