We converted himuro the storage for ice made at the ice factory into a gallery. The inside of the himuro had been insulated with styrofoam of about 20 cm thick inside the concrete wall, and inside the styrofoam 6 mm veneer and cedar duckboard were attached to. Styrofoam insulation is needed and useable after conversion. In addition, it was judged that duckboard would be usable as makeup of the interior as it was, and we repaired the part where duckboard had been destroyed and lost. The himuro was divided into five chambers with concrete walls, four of which were connected by small doors. So I wanted to visualize the flow of circulation which connects four chambers. I think it is the construction of my recent concept which I call the flow and the stagnation that I have been thinking recently. Therefore, we decided to create the shape which has catenary curves in a cross section, starfishlike (four-legs) shape in the plan by frp (fiber reinforced plastic). But we could not find a company that could produce this shape, so we decided to create it by ourselves. A mold was made of veneer and styrofoam, a coat for exfoliation was applied thereon, a glass fiber sheet was placed, and a plastic resin was applied thereon. It took about three months to produce. This FRP tunnel is a visualization of human movement, and at the same time is the space which when you pass through you can feel like you have gone through the underflowingwater of Mt. Fuji.
