Fran&Co’s Seoul office redefines how a small, windowless space can evolve into an inspiring and functional workplace that promotes well-being and creativity. This design sets a new standard for future urban projects, marking a paradigm shift in South Korean office design. Given the significant time individuals spend in offices, the impact of space on emotions and productivity is profound. Energizing the workspace enhances employee creativity and fosters collaboration, leading to improved productivity and a virtuous cycle of company performance.
With no natural light and a tight budget, the challenge was to create a space that fosters creativity and well-being without major structural changes. Rather than viewing the constraints as obstacles, we embraced them as opportunities. The light mint walls, retained from the original space, seamlessly align with Fran&Co’s identity while reducing material waste. The forest-themed wallpaper and a curated selection of small plants evoke a sense of nature, cultivating a healing and inspiring environment within the urban landscape. This nature-infused environment also creates a serene connection to the nearby Seoul Botanic Park.
Despite its compact size, the office is thoughtfully divided into distinct zones: a workstation area for focused tasks, a lounge for relaxation, a meeting room for discussions, and a material library for convenient access to resources. The design prioritizes ergonomics, incorporating ergonomic furniture to support comfort and productivity. The open layout fosters collaboration, while cozy rattan chairs and ambient lighting enhance the overall user experience. Additionally, the lounge is envisioned as a versatile hub for the growing team, with track lighting intentionally installed to allow for flexible future reconfiguration.
The glass entrance, emblazoned with Fran&Co’s logo, establishes an inviting yet strong connection to brand identity. The orange accent carpet in the lounge subtly defines the space without overwhelming it. Floating shelves display design samples, making inspiration readily accessible to the team. Forest-themed wallpaper not only enhances the connection to nature, but also visually expands the office space. Pendant lightings and door handles were curated to enhance both tactile and visual experience, adding subtle layers of sensory engagement within the space.
Sustainability is embedded in both material choices and long-term adaptability. By retaining the existing light mint walls, we minimize waste and the need for new materials. Maintaining the existing steel walls behind the curtains facilitates easy restoration while reducing costs and minimizing environmental impact. This approach supports a circular economy through the reuse of existing structures, reflecting our commitment to sustainability.
