Framebridge, the former online-only retailer of custom frames, called upon GrizForm Design Architects to design two brick and mortar locations in the Washington D.C. metro area; the first on 14th Street and the second in Bethesda. Much like the thoughtful materiality of Framebridge’s products, GrizForm selected materials & finishes to reflect such throughout the two new retail spaces. Custom hardwood fixtures, unlacquered brass details, natural-tone leathers, rich velvet and subtle odes to midcentury design fill the space. Framebrige’s identifying brand colors, sage, vintage red, royal blue, & bright yellow, accent the retail stores & give customers an unexpected surprise; a modern twist on the traditional frame shop. Raw Ash fixtures offer plenty of airy workspace & represent the beauty & quality of Framebridge’s mouldings. The two new spaces are designed to feel modern & inviting, but with an air of nostalgia. Unique to the 14th Street location is the Framebridge Story Booth, the jewel of the space. Created with the intention of becoming a collaborative exercise amongst the Framebridge team & their customers, the Story Booth allows shoppers & staff alike to create & share unique content. The booth is designed to pay homage to a 1960s recording studio; the exterior is built from vertical struts of the brand’s Ash Gallery moulding while the interior is dipped floor to ceiling in yellow velvet & features vintage brass accents & an old-school microphone.
