Fino Vino is a playful celebration of country and city, the contrast and the point at which two-things come together. Simplicity and complexity, contemporary with antiquity, custom and reclaimed, velvety and granular, crunchy and smooth, earthy and glossy. Fino Vino is all of these from the fitout to the food. It is a coming of age story for a restaurant that began its life in a small town, moved to a big winery, and finally settled in the city. Think simplicity mixed with antiquity. Custom detailing competing with the reclaimed. Curated with the haphazard. A mix of textures, velvety and granular, crunchy and smooth, earthy and glossy. The building’s layers have been peeled back to expose a masonry interior made of warm, earthy materials, just like the food and hospitality on offer. The fit out is a celebration of the South Australian terroir incorporating stone sourced from near the Flinders Rangers, and highlights some of South Australia’s emerging and established makers and creatives. The space was left intentionally raw, with a clear coat adhered to existing walls, clear resin to the floors, enabling holes to be filled, yet still remain visible, and vermiculite sprayed on the ceilings to create some acoustic comfort whilst concealing some of the existing services. The elements that were added were intentionally deft in their detailing, and overly considered, achieving the layers of contrast outlined above. Ceramics from Hand, Made & Found, Terracotta Tiles made in Magill by Bennetts, and furniture designed by Agostino & Brown and studio-gram completes the hyper-local approach to the interior design. We are also extremely honoured to exhibit works by the late South Australian artist, Bridget Ohlsson. Bridget’s Still Life paintings take pride of place within the venue. Bridget’s work was on display in the original Fino in Willunga, however Bridget has since sadly passed away. To celebrate the client’s relationship with Bridget, we have displayed five of her unfished works on unfinished walls. The one complete work is hung on the only ‘finished wall’ within the venue. Fino Vino, from a food beverage point of view, is built on a philosophy that is all about the relationships they have with vignerons, farmers, producers and growers. Fino Vino, from a design point of view, is now built on the relationships we have with local makers, local creatives and local materials. This is a true marrying of concepts from the kitchen and the bar through to the fitout. Fino Vino is unmistakeable South Australian, from the chair you are sitting on, to the table your plate is on, and the produce on your plate, this is unmistakably and unashamedly South Australian born and bred.
