The unique environment at Walchensee in the Bavarian Alpine foothills forms the background for this small, fully refurbished chalet from the 1960’s. Just like the new gently curved facade made of untreated silver fir, so do the interiors, furnished with natural materials, relate to the protected forest landscape.

The house is defined by a clear structured floor plan that offers a variety of views and because of the interconnected rooms also a lot of freedom of movement. Because of the sloping terrain, the ground floor has two levels: Upstairs, at the entrance, are the open kitchen and bathroom; three steps lower and orientated to the southeast lake are the floor to ceiling living room and bedroom.

Essential for the warm atmosphere is the concentration on a few materials that are naturally colored rather reservedly, especially wood, textiles and mineral wall plaster. Just as important are the lovingly created furnishing details such as the large carpet woven from used fabric and the inviting lambskin armchair in the living room, the bedroom wardrobe covered with fir-green wool, the longish black mosaic tiles and the hand-cast concrete washbasin in the bathroom, or the minimalist burnished brass lights. There is also a large studio window in the living room and fixed-glazed skylights in the northern roof area, which provide plenty of natural light and a close connection to the nature.
