Menswear fashion retailer END. already has a very successful online business and a store in Newcastle. Brinkworth have been working with END to fine tune their retail concept and develop new sites, starting in Glasgow. Set within part of the old Central Post Office building, the long, narrow and high unit is of extreme proportions, presenting an atypical space for retail. Brinkworth have taken this as a source of inspiration and used the space to an advantage.
From the entrance the cavernous space is celebrated with long sight lines, mirrors and the repetition of vertical perimeter elements to accentuate perspective. The shop signage is a three-dimensional steel frame ‘END.’, that is extruded to extend into the middle of the store, where the ground floor reaches a monolithic marble opening, and the levels then divide into an upper and a lower ground area at the back. This marble portal houses the circulation core which links all floors and forms a crucial product launch area in the lower ground void, visible from every aspect. A consistent rhythm of vertical timber batons run down the length of the space to the back walls, providing the framework to support linear shelving and rails.
