The long narrow site of El Pastór lies beneath the railway arches of London Bridge that encircle Borough Market. The 60 cover ‘taqueria’ serves tacos with tortillas expertly made from scratch in house every day.  The restaurant is effectively two vaults, the first used for the entrance and bar, and the second to house the kitchen and tortilla factory. The existing metal clad ceiling and exposed bricks were incorporated into the design and despite the industrial shell the space is both inviting and warm. The site was opened up at the rear and windows added to increase the feeling of space and light. Materials are vibrant and colourful, from the dazzling emerald green conglomerate marble used for the bar to the bespoke artwork which greets you on arrival. Most tables are counter height with bright and vibrant glazed Pyrolave tabletops. The fixed seating areas include simple banquettes, with back cushions hanging individually with leather straps from the rear of the banquette. The remainder of the space is filled with a colourful array of Afro Chairs designed by India Mahdavi.  These are made from a system of coloured woven strings wrapped around a simple metal chair frame, with each chair having its own unique colour combination. The polished concrete floor unites the spaces and incorporates bespoke manhole covers embossed with the location and signature of the taqueria.
