Weekend Jaunt within the City Overview In designing this seaside apartment, transforming the space into a refined-yet-inviting weekend retreat was one of the requirements raised by our client. To achieve this, a modern luxury decoration style would be applied to the interiors so as to strike the balance between hectic urban life and relaxing resort living. One highlight is ‘a sense of freshness’. Apart from client’s demand for a weekend retreat, a refreshing and dynamic interior which enables the multi-generational family to escape from the bustling city life is preferred. Meanwhile, we hope that every time when visitor arrives there is something unexpected round the corner. Basically, most of the areas could have access to the panoramic ocean views and far-reaching greenery, thus provide the ideal setting of getting away from hectic city life. In terms of layout composition, our client preferred any partition or equipment which could express a sense of relaxing and comfort atmosphere. Design Concept Each of the zones is adapted and custom designed to respond to the brief of creating a weekend retreat. Comfy and relaxing are undoubtedly the keywords. By designing a refined and dynamic space, the residence becomes a refuge from the bustle of the city. The layout encourages socializing, on the contrary one could enjoy ‘me time’ reading by the window. To minimize distractions, the designer introduced a precise palette of beige and light grey, while strategically populating the interiors with gold accents by adding bronze steel trimmings across the abode and statement lighting fixtures hang above the dining table. Meanwhile, designer carefully arranged paintings with illuminating sea waves graphic motifs to echo with the residence’s natural surroundings and far-reaching views. For this project, each of the family members selects and occupies a dedicated area of their own, but gather with a spacious shared space located at the heart of the residence. As such, the balanced, refined-yet-inviting communal space comprises a sitting area, living area, dining space, semi-open kitchen and balcony, thereby becomes the central point for socializing, entertaining and gathering. Based on the ‘first-come-first-served’ principle, there is no fixed bedroom for occupants. Everyone could freely choose their favourite rooms depending on their mood and preference for particular date and time. In addition to the sleeping quarters, the layout provides various options for dining, including the sitting area, living space and balcony. Furthermore, a recreation area for playing Mahjong is included. Most important elements When being tasked with remodeling a four-bedroom residential apartment for a multi-generational family, searching for an equilibrium design to suit the entire family was one of the designer’s foremost concerns. As such, neutral palette such as champagne gold, grey and light beige could be seen throughout the residence. Textured light grey wall covering matched with contrasting hues to strike the balance between warm and cold palette; thus laid out a balanced, elegant and chic feeling. Inspired by the ‘ritual’ of checking in to the hotel, the designer came up with the concept of ‘first-come-first-served’ so as to fulfill client’s wish of ‘freshness’. Interestingly, there is no fixed bedroom specifically furnished for each of the family member, which means that they could ‘check in’ to different rooms according to their preference and mood, and maybe the availability of the rooms as well. In addition, lighting was being used as an effective tool to create mood. By incorporating various lighting solutions and smart living system, occupants can easily adjust and create the preferred ambience for reading, dining and napping as he/she wants.
