The Design Talks Lounge designed by Gensler redefined event staging by immersing attendees in a woodland-inspired environment, fostering a connection between nature and workplace design. Drawing from the theme "Bloom – Exploring the Thriving Ecosystem of Work Life," the lounge used biophilic elements to create a space resonating with the evolving workplace landscape. The integration of nature symbolised the symbiotic relationship between sustainability and innovation. The woodland setting, combined with eco-conscious materials like MOGU flooring and Kvadrat's recycled-fibre backdrops, underscored a commitment to forward-thinking design practices.
The stage was configured with a 45-degree layout to optimise audience engagement, managing diverse crowd sizes efficiently. This arrangement allowed attendees to flow in from various directions and provided standing areas for overflow during popular talks. Furniture of varying heights ensured clear sightlines for all participants. Durable and eco-friendly MOGU flooring withstood event demands while promoting reusability. These functional choices transformed the space into a versatile and inclusive hub, balancing form and practicality.
The lounge championed sustainability through circular economy principles. Materials like MOGU flooring, Andreu World furniture, and Kvadrat's recycled fabric were selected for their responsible properties and reusability. Biophilic elements such as plant sculptures and moss landscapes enhanced the aesthetic and symbolised the industry’s responsibility to embrace sustainable practices. After the event, all components were repurposed or donated, ensuring a zero-waste approach. Kvadrat’s fabric was earmarked for charity projects, reinforcing the lounge’s lasting social and environmental impact.
The lounge blended design, nature, and responsibility into a cohesive, captivating experience. Attracting over 4,500 attendees, with 35 panel discussions and 135 speakers in the whole event, the lounge drew inspiration from forests and meadows to offer a tranquil and inviting atmosphere. It featured Exubia’s plant and moss sculptures and a fabric backdrop resembling a woodland scene, encouraging attendees to reflect on the connection between design and the natural world. A suspended mirror ball added whimsy, challenging participants to consider their role in sustainable design. The calming palette complemented the natural elements, creating an inviting atmosphere that stood out as a serene retreat amidst the bustling trade show. The lounge garnered widespread acclaim, covered extensively in media and shared on social platforms. Attendees praised its ability to merge functionality, innovation, and sustainability into a memorable and inspiring environment. By prioritising quality over quantity and embracing circular design principles, the Design Talks Lounge designed by Gensler set a new benchmark for event spaces, proving sustainability and creativity can harmoniously coexist.
