HiFi+ sound, LoFi approach was the philosophy that drove the design for Dante’s HiFi+, which is sophisticated in its conception and articulation, yet raw in character. Behind an unlabeled black door, is an intimate, soulful, and sincere space with a speakeasy entry, but an approachable interior. The amalgamation of raw concrete and a rich burnt orange velvet, frame the warm-toned wood vinyl wall holding a +/-4,000 large record collection.
Confined to a box-like footprint of 1097 SF, space was a challenge when creating an intimate listening room to accommodate operational and audio visual requirements. Accommodating the custom-built analog sound system featuring Klipsch speakers, vintage Cary tube amplification, and Master Sounds rotary, which gives Dante's it authentic HiFi sound quality was top priority; regulating the HVAC to allow for an uninterrupted airflow resulted in a smooth listening experience. The modest budget required the design to follow a utilitarian approach when selecting furniture, finishes, and limited decoration to a few soulful accessories.
Breaking from Wynwood’s graffitied walls, the exterior is plain and unimposing. Without signage, the intimate listening room must be discovered. Lush drapery and a large central area rug form an inward cozy setting with amazing acoustics; a safe environment for Grammy-award-winning Rich Medina’s record collection. Vinyl displays shape the backdrop of the bar and DJ booth. Integrating the booth in the bar’s center is the novelty of Dante’s HiFi+.
