Sand tones, sinuous curves and authentic artisanal elements, celebrate the handmade, and define the contemporary identity of Cris Barros' new store. The interior space, inspired by the sensual contours of Brazilian modernist gardens, is covered in hand-crafted white clay tiles and fragments of discarded fluorescent light bulbs, fired in a kiln. The open façade dissolves the boundaries between interior and exterior, while blurring the areas of retail and contemplation. Ceramic sculptures, handcrafted furniture made from reclaimed wood, tropical plants, and rustic linen curtains, create a quiet and natural atmosphere, with a peaceful yet positive luminosity.

The client's brief was to create a store that embodied a natural sense of authenticity through the celebration of Brazilian art and high craftsmanship, thus reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainability and responsibly sourced fashion. The challenge was to find innovative materials and construction methods that aligned with these values, while ensuring durability for a high-traffic retail environment and ensuring the preservation of the handcrafted, organic aesthetic which the brand envisioned.

To meet these goals, the main walls of the store were covered with small ceramic tiles, hand-crafted from recycled clay mixed with fragments of discarded fluorescent light bulbs, fired in a kiln and finished manually with a traditional lime wash. The furniture, consisting of totems and display pieces, was crafted from reclaimed wood, while the fitting rooms were designed with demolition wood panels to preserve a raw, tactile quality.

A significant challenge was the construction of the curved walls that sweep through the space. These organic, flowing forms required a high degree of precision and specialized expertise. Crafting the lines seamlessly demanded advanced techniques and skilled labour to achieve both structural stability and a continuous, natural flow to create the shape that gives the store its distinctive character. This organic language is echoed in the curved garment racks and custom rugs with flowing patterns, creating a cohesive environment that blends functionality, sustainability, and artisanal authenticity. Transparent retractable glass doors were integrated into the façade, maintaining a visual connection between the interior and exterior, even when the store is closed.
