Architecture studio SlowStudio and Dramaa have joint force to renovate its flagship designer gallery for House of Wang – a platform which represents over 10 global contemporary designer brands and artists at a courtyard house in central Beijing. The creative direction of the project was informed by a multitude of inspirations. Set in the context of original structure of traditional Chinese house typology and oriental ornament, each interior space adopts its own theme in aim to display the multi brand designs and art pieces. Cosiness of timber contrasts with glittering glass, architectural materials themselves provoke sensual feelings and act as backstage for the contemporary pieces. Moreover, it is the juxtaposition of modern industrial production to the traditional handmade craftmanship defines the narrative for this vision of the overall interior design. In order to satisfy an overall cohesiveness and different functional requirement from House of Wang, designer has overturned the site constrain in terms of dimension and lighting to its very advantage. For instance, there was only limited access of skylight at the underground level. Designer has chosen white Carrara marble to display the collection of pendant lamps which needs a defused illumination. Furthermore, the humble height of side rooms branch out from the main room displays accessory brands 1882 and Paola C which encourage a more intimate relationship between the viewer and the pieces. A more muted darker palette decorates the cigar and congac room which is the smallest room of this courtyard house. HOUSE OF WANG exclusively represents a number of refined international brands debuting in China, including Se collection, Ochre, Nada Debs, Apparatus, Omar Khan Rugs, Paola C. and 1882 Ltd, as well as artist Peter Yuill, Corine Van Voorberge and Alexa Lixfeld. In addition, HOUSE OF WANG carries products from Bethan Gray, Lee Broom and Calico Wallpaper.
