In a world dominated by gravity, two aerospace enthusiasts found a way to defy it within the four walls of their home. Trained in aviation but unable to follow their dreams, the owners aspired to bring their airborne dreams into terrestrial life.

The design draws heavy inspiration from the riveting history of aeronautics. The walls and ceilings modeled after the skin of aircraft serve as the key visual distinction, the rivets and the faux metal plates pay tribute to the undying craftsmanship of aircraft manufacturing. The spatial form is taken from the contours of the airplane wings and fuselage with a touch of softness. The hallway simulates the interiors of an airplane, adorned with adjustable ambient lighting to create a high-altitude illusion, fully immersing the users in the comfortable and serene atmosphere of flying.

The apartment design also provides their children a safe and joyful environment. The corners in the apartment are rounded to prevent injury, the hand-painted mural on the wall turns the children’s bedroom into a secret hideout where the kids can both go on space adventures and rest floating among the stars. The home is a materialization of the owners’ love for aviation and family, and the wish to pass down their dreams.

The aircraft skin wall design is created with faux finishing and Lotos plaster, preventing the issue in room temperature control if actual metal is used and avoiding the possible coldness in atmosphere. The texture on the TV wall is rendered by hand to create an organic and warm feeling. The aircraft skin design can surprise the guests with the juxtaposition between the visual and the actual materials used.

To maintain the completeness of the design, the designer incorporates the AC vent into the curved wall and ceiling and, in addition, enhances the overall industrial vibe of aeronautical aesthetics. Cabinets and shelves are integrated into the wall without compromising any storage space. It is crucial for the home to be both functional and comfortable so that the embrace of aviation theme can become a draw instead of a hindrance.

The home features low-formaldehyde Italian paints and incorporates eco-friendly Lotos plaster. The Lotos plaster is an innovative green material invented by a Taiwanese research team as a solution to the everlasting reservoir siltation problem in Taiwan. The plaster is derived from the silt and features air-filtering and dehumidifying effect, it is a choice that’s both environmentally conscious and can preserve the health of the homeowners. The plaster is generously utilized on the wall behind the living room desk, providing its full benefit in the space where the family members spend the most time and showcasing its unique natural aesthetics. Thus, the designer successfully creates a home for the dreams of the family to soar, and for their lives to prosper.
