The design of the store was to be bold and in keeping with the store’s ethos of; “challenging the ideas of tradition and pushing them towards the current times.” The space was to be continuous with no back room storage. Raw cheat steel wrap the walls in contrast to the concrete walls and exposed ceiling. The restrained palette of raw sheet steel and coarse concrete are both natural and contrasting in their dichotomy; natural and artificial; velvet darkness and stark light Carefully bent and seamed sheet steel make up all the fixtures along the perimeter; a continuous hanging rod around plinth and shelving cabinets at the front of the store for perfumes, candles, and accessories. The sheet steel clad walls conceal change and storage rooms. At the centre of the store is a clearing with bespoke raw metal sheet and leather furniture. Large twin freestanding cement cabinets offer an abundance of surface to display jewellery and accessories and a long leather topped metal cabinet parallel to the olfactory display shelves acts as both a display counter and cashier desk. A modified rolling cabinet sits at the front of the store offering visitors an opportunity to search amongst the precious items on open display for something that speaks to them. The same raw sheet steel has been used to make up the entire store’s façade, giving the store a dramatic presence along the brightly lit white marble clad mall promenade. Two enormous pivot doors – also made of folded raw steel, flank the entrance to the store. The display windows and bent fascia give the storefront a futuristic gothic feel.
