Located at the head of “The Streets of Barangaroo” on Sydney’s world famous harbour, Cirrus Dining celebrates the client’s vision to offer a casual seafood restaurant with a focus on sustainable fishing practices. Cirrus sits at the base of a building defined by an intensely unique and geometrically challenging space for a hospitality venue. Everything is on show with the 360o glass facade creating a distinctly aquarium type building condition. As with all successful collaborations the design was driven by an intense discourse between designers and client that resulted in a restaurant that offers a calmly sophisticated dining experience. A purposeful clash/juxtaposition of building and interior geometries is created by the bulkhead line and timber screens which define volume over the dining and bar spaces. The undulating timber screen provides warmth and intimacy to various dining pockets whilst softening the bulkhead. The materials palette was carefully selected with sustainability and durability in mind. Uniquely crafted materials such as woven leather and sand blasted steel echo the skill and creativity of the restaurant team whose work is showcased via the exposed/open kitchen. Brass, marble and timber furnishings add elegance while ‘Alvin’ the suspended 1950’s speedboat brings playful character to the space.
