The Cinchona Bar at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse is the perfect spot to sup a coffee over work or to enjoy a sophisticated aperitif during the day. At night it morphs into a stage to meet, greet and relax. Located on the ground floor of the hotel, it’s a small but special, unusual venue with a laid-back style.
Jörg Meyer, internationally acclaimed barkeeper and creative mind behind the Cinchona Bar, is keen to establish a new aperitif culture at the hotel. DAY DRINKING is the eyebrow-raising name that he has given his concept.
At the Cinchona Bar highballs are the stars: short drinks served in frozen glasses with two ice cubes. Mainly, Cinchona Bar serves FORTIFIED WINES, such as vermouths, americanos, quinquinas, sherry, madeira and port. These aromatic wines are the most important tools to mix the perfect daytime drink, says Jörg Meyer. A cinchona a type of shrub or tree from South America. “They give us the best ingredients for our light afternoon drinks,” explains the barkeeper. ‘Bitter substances from the bark add a refined touch to the spiced wines from Italy, Spain, France and other parts of the world.’
