The rock as a symbol:
Architect August Hardegger drew on two neo-baroque inspirations in the local area for the Church of St. Anna. Opened in 1909, the building is perched on a hill and flooded with light: ideal conditions for showing off its white interior and lavish baroque altars.

When redesigning the choir room, we also drew on Schindellegi’s surroundings and worked with boulders, which are often found in this area. The erratic blocks that ended their journeys nearby have now helped create a welcoming space for those who seek spiritual solace here – like the rock upon which Christ built His church.

Contrast as a linking element:
We chose three boulders from the Rhine valley for the altar, ambo and baptismal font, creating a design where smooth, polished surfaces meet raw, natural stone. In the process, we drew upon and developed the baroque interplay between organic and geometric forms. While the baroque originally sought a kind of antithesis to nature, our concept, conversely, tames true nature and transforms it into geometry. The cross, candlesticks and seats with distinctly simple shapes complement the liturgical furnishings.
