The Charter Communications headquarters reflects a commitment to its community and employees through a design created by HLW International, supported by specialty partner Spark Studio Lighting Design. Two towers connected by an amenity link, incorporating planning concepts of modularity, flexibility and key adjacencies to realize a robust program.
Lighting strategically integrates with the interiors to articulate a dynamic language, establishing a broad sense of cohesion within workspace and providing extensive amenity features.
Anchoring the design scheme is the three-story connector, welcoming staff and visitors. Lobby, café and informal gathering places encourage synergy to bring the campus together. Mirroring this intent, the lighting program is built on three distinct concepts envisioned by the architect: functional and energizing Workplace Zones; Destination Points are accent moments with personality and character; and refined and balanced Public Areas.
Lighting is imagined to visually connect the campus, culminating in a dramatic lighting installation within the connector building. Simple concepts and elements repeat to create more complex statements. The result is an expression of light that speaks to the architecture itself and the flow of information.
A massive media wall greets visitors with floating ceiling panels above. Indirect coves that separate the ceiling elements can be programmed with color for special events. The adjacent seating area features a custom installation of suspended light tubes that speak to motifs of connection, movement, and speed.
Above, seen through glass from lobby to cafeteria, the ceiling design inverts and the broad bands are indirectly illuminated coffers, with longer tubes that recall the installation below.
The connector extends beyond the media wall, offering a coffee bar, varied seating and gathering places including café seating and bleachers beneath a honeycomb of acoustic and lighting panels suspended in wide open layouts and high ceilings. Continuous lines of light traverse multiple volumes and program typologies as a unifying element.
Creating cohesion is an important facet. Lighting in the connector is recalled in upper levels of the towers. Wood ceilings and architectural elements are always treated with modular black accent and cove lighting to bring out warmth and texture. Linear motifs are interpolated in different way, such as the fitness center where a suspended modular lighting system jogs up and down to unite different ceiling conditions with an energetic lighting concept.
The elevator lobby lighting design playfully integrates the tube typology. Interior circulation is lifted by bright coves and varied lighting details.
In the workplace, linear language is expressed in varied projections of fixtures across the ceilings and flow into touchdown zones where luminous boxes congregate over tables. Breakout Pantries have downlights, coves and focal point lighting to enhance hospitality.
