BOIFFILS ARCHITECTURES, renowned for innovative international architectural interventions, proudly presents its 5-year expansion project for Terminal 2 of Singapore’s Changi Airport. Spanning 120,000m² across three levels, the redesign prioritizes traveler experiences and environmental connections. Recognized for their creative approach, the agency's proposal emphasized passenger comfort over efficiency, departing from traditional airport design.

The project reimagines the airport experience, infusing nature-inspired elements across Arrival and Departure halls. Vegetation, water features, and minerals create a serene multi-sensory environment, aiming to soothe travelers amidst the stress of travel. Departing from conventional airport aesthetics, the design echoes luxurious hotel complexes, with personalized check-in experiences and rich earth tones.

To enhance transparency and reduce anxiety, the layout provides unobstructed views of the journey ahead. Streamlined immigration zones and baggage areas blend seamlessly with vegetated walls and organic lines, fostering a calmer mindset. A complex ceiling structure conceals technical elements, contributing to the serene atmosphere.

Collaborating with Moment Factory, the project integrates technology and nature, offering immersive experiences like "The Wonderfall," a digital waterfall display synchronized with music. The transit area's south garden features an LED ceiling simulating outdoor weather conditions and immersive tropical sounds, creating a restful environment for layover passengers.

Artisanal materials and multinational collaboration characterize the project, with craftsmen from various countries contributing to custom elements. Construction commenced in 2020, with the complex opening in phases starting from 2022. The project culminated in an official unveiling ceremony in November 2023, ahead of schedule.

BOIFFILS ARCHITECTURES’ Terminal 2 expansion at Changi Airport sets a new standard for airport design, prioritizing passenger comfort, environmental integration, and innovative experiences.
