The operational headquarter of the worldwide pharmaceutical company Vifor Pharma wanted to redesign their existing offices into a new work environment that reflects the company’s identity and values. At the same time a new workplace concept was launched on 9400m2 with the aim to strengthen the interdisciplinary cooperation between the various teams from different departments. The numerous individual offices were transformed into large open space offices. Employees were involved in the design process right from the start and could contribute their ideas and needs in several workshops. The need of natural light divides the building into two sectors. Along the window front, new workplaces for around 400 people are located on 5 floors, while the centered social interaction zone contains meeting rooms, networking and relaxing areas. The two areas are separated by a membrane wall, which runs through all floors. The wooden wall is both translucent and soundproof. It also serves as wardrobe, kitchenette or phone booths. The Corporate Design has been substantially extended to include colored walls and new shapes. Materials and products were removed, cleaned and, if possible, reused. The new office design not only visually refreshed the office space, but also strengthened the still young corporate identity and created a new culture of cooperation among the employees. The elaborated corporate archguidelines enable the roll-out of the new office design internationally.
