We've created a home, a place built with love and dreams, for a special family in Portugal. Strong characters that fill the space with life and tell their own stories characterize this home, which serves as a multi-layered collage, both as a personal retreat and as an open stage. The traits of the family members are not only reflected in the individual design of the rooms, but also in the characterful and exciting arrangement of the objects. We have fanned out a fascinating kaleidoscope of scenes for them, which are now waiting to be conquered.

Families are complex. Within a family there are so many relationships, personalities and stories that come together in one. It can be difficult to find satisfaction in one home all together, when each family member has a different idea of who they are, what they like and what is important to them. Nevertheless, a family is a unity. This space reflects exactly this: We have put together a conglomeration of heterogeneous impressions and yet a homogeneous whole on 635 square meters and four floors.

As if in an artfully composed mosaic, various mementos from international travels, archaic furniture, powerful paintings and sculptures as well as lush plants dominate the room on the top floor: This home space engages the family and house guests to share stories, reflect on memories and cherish the aesthetic social family space. The concept of layering and superimposition runs like a common thread through the entire building and constantly opens perspectives. Just as the personalities of the family members are multi-layered, mirrored elements dissolve the boundaries. expand the spatial relationships and create a mysterious atmosphere.

This space works well in the sense that it feels like home to the people living there. The family can relax, conversate with each other, be comfortable and act together as a family. To guests of the family, this special place can be an easy conversation starter that goes deep quickly because of all the interesting art, sculptures or memory pieces that are displayed gracefully.

This project is super individual and reflects the specific families personality and relationship within. Because we worked so closely with the family and their ideas and dreams, we were able to very strongly reflect the family’s energy and personality in their home interior. This project also makes it clear that shaping relationships is our profession - regardless of whether it is the relationship between spaces, people or things: The most striking characters thus become parts of a story that can be told on very many levels.

For this particular family we have created a sustainable home. A home that reflects this family and makes them feel comfortable and safe. Whenever the family members decide to invite people over, this place will also act as a form of home for their guests and a social place - enabling new connections and social experiences.
