Nestled in the bustling La Condesa Neighborhood of Mexico City, Casa Mezcal is more than just a private residence; it's a fusion of innovation, functionality, creativity, and sustainability, seamlessly blending architecture, nature, design, and craftsmanship.
Innovation:
To foster connectivity and openness, Casa Mezcal embarked on a bold reinterpretation of its layout. Recognizing the tendency of older homes to lack natural light, the project ingeniously replaced the roof with expansive glass sliding panels, flooding the interior with sunlight. This innovative approach not only transforms the space but also creates a natural indoor/outdoor courtyard at the heart of the residence.
Functionality:
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Casa Mezcal prioritizes functionality. The layout seamlessly merges indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing the residents' living experience. From cascading stairwells to tree-filled skylights, every element is meticulously designed to promote ease of movement and interaction with the environment. Premium materials such as natural stone floors and breathable plaster walls not only contribute to the visual appeal but also ensure durability and practicality.
Creativity:
Creativity is at the core of Casa Mezcal's design ethos. The project embraces creativity in its color palette, opting for earthy tones that evoke a sense of warmth and tranquility. Handmade bricks sourced from different regions throughout Mexico add a unique touch, while the restoration of architectural features such as art deco windows and orgininal talavera tiles showcases a commitment to preserving history while infusing modern creativity.
Sustainability:
Casa Mezcal is a testament to sustainable living. By utilizing locally sourced materials and implementing innovative construction techniques, the project significantly reduces its environmental footprint. The selection of handmade bricks, which require 50% less cement and utilize natural drying methods, underscores a dedication to sustainability. Furthermore, the restoration of the monumental facade and architectural arches not only preserves the heritage of the property but also minimizes waste by repurposing existing elements.
