Candela Gelateria redefines the concept of a conventional ice cream establishment to become an experimentation laboratory. The design is committed to a distribution concept that identifies and generates spaces for the diverse range of products they offer, ranging from a wide variety of ice cream flavors to the preparation of cocktails. Candela Gelatería is located in Redován, led by the master ice cream maker José Manuel Marcos Candela, whose professionalism was recognized in 2019, when he received the title of second best ice cream maker. The establishment for Candela Gelateria has been designed in order to transmit its differentiation from other ice cream vendors. Its design consists of an aseptic space, which creates a feeling of neatness and cleanliness. These sensations are reinforced with the use of pure colors, and emphasized by very careful lighting. Light is treated as one more material that controls, modifies and shapes spaces. Two well-differentiated spaces were created, one for the day and the other for the night. During the day, the leading role is for white light, which transmits transparency, cleanliness and professionalism. At nightfall, the recreation of a glacial effect is the objective: the white lighting disappears giving the lead role to the blue lighting, which creates the illusion of entering a sweet glacier. Materiality is another important aspect when it comes to accentuating these sensations. This is the reason why composite and micro-perforated miniature sheets were used as coating for vertical walls. They are cold materials to the touch, and thanks to the perforations generate a transparency that, when illuminated with a cold light, evokes the sensation of a frozen double skin. This feeling is also supported by the use of blue butyral in the glass that makes up the facade. The intention is to colour the interior of the premises blue, giving them a greater sensation of freshness and also produce a refreshing look from the outside. In accordance with the products offered in this ice cream establishment, always subject to experimentation, the idea of creating an atypical and unusual space influenced the entire project. The objective was clear: to make the user experience the innovative spirit that defines Candela Gelatería. Therefore, the design included details that evoke the aesthetics of a futuristic laboratory. They range from the creation of the logo, which no one would find out of place in a periodic table, to the inclusion of backlit walls, through the incorporation of tubes that run through and draw the space, occasionally converted into luminaires. Candela Gelateria started as a 35 m2 establishment. Now, boosted by the well deserved success, they have opted to expand the space to 68 m2, including a bar, a local consumption area and a cocktail area. An exclusive space designed for Candela Gelateria, which stands out in the sector for its constant search for a healthy, different, varied and high quality product.
