An elegant space that forgoes any formal and stylistic excesses, the New York store on Madison Avenue is the first Canali boutique realized with the new concept developed by Park Associati around the world.
The practice’s approach to its layout’s design stemmed from on a search for an unconventional and innovative solution. The intention was to create interiors that convey a sense of airiness and spaciousness, so that visitors would not feel like being in an enclosed environment.
The project's concept aims to foster a creative dialogue between art and fashion. 'Untitled Views', a selection of works by the Italian duo Goldschmied & Chiari, turn the Madison Avenue boutique into a refined and unique public-sharing workshop. The artists’ performative process uses coloured natural smoke-producing materials to create abstract and fluid pictures that are then printed on mirrored glass. The immersive path created by these works welcomes visitors into a highly imaginative and colourful environment.
The application of craftsmanship and the balanced use of elements impart uniqueness and value to materials associated with the architectural tradition, thus reflecting the sartorial, elegant essence that set apart the Canali brand.
The different furnishings are characterised by a game of contrasts created through the use of surfaces featuring curved and radial patterns that interact with the square lightweight volumes. The mineral quality and different finishes of marble and stone surfaces combine with wood generating contained geometries, and with technically refined metallic finishes. The inclusion of simple details brings to mind the design of sophisticated technological objects and imparts a sense of freshness and contemporaneity to the store.
Inspired by a circular production cycle, the wall coverings, such as plaster and veneer, are created through the recycling of waste, the use of sustainable sources and highly organised processes aimed at reducing waste and consumption.
The VIP room is the core of the store’s functions. Designed as a hybrid space, this room conveys the brand’s main characteristics – elegant finishings are complemented by less conventional functions. Suitably equipped walls allow the installation of artwork, while the bar fosters informal situations that allow visitors to enjoy the experience to the full.
Particular attention is paid to light. The natural light streaming in through the windows highlights the front spaces of the store, while the vestibule, the dressing rooms, the cash desk area and the access to the warehouse and ancillary spaces are at the back. The chosen materials and the garments on display are enhanced by the even light cast by a lighting system that draws an elegant and original graphic pattern on the ceiling.
