Founded in 1888, the Swiss company Bucherer is one of Europe’s most established purveyors of watches and jewellery. For the firm’s Zürich location the interior designers developed a concept that reflects the brand’s high quality and image. The concept is built on the close connection between architecture and interior design: The striking façade of Bucherer Haus is mirrored indoors. Even the material used outside – Cristallina, the only marble quarried in Switzerland, here in the virgino, or white, version – is picked up inside. Polished marble was used for the walls; on the floors, marble is used as a frieze. Metallic colours – seen from the outside in display windows – are also used indoors. The distinctive and precise formal language of Bucherer Haus shapes the thematic framework for the watch range. One highlight is the Cristallina marble wall of watches on the second floor above ground: Circular shapes cut into the walls – some bush-hammered, others polished, some with embedded metal plates or with cast watch parts – pay homage to the art of Swiss watchmaking. The first floor above ground in the adjoining building houses the jewellery department. Here, the formal language is more playful, gentler, in keeping with the building’s façade. Jewellery is presented on oval counters illuminated by a special lighting fixture; an alcove lined with blue silk and a café area with semi-circular niches, also done in blue velvet tones, provide space for consultation and fitting.
